How to: Get Rid of Annoying Firefox Crashes in Ubuntu Hardy (Flashplugin-nonfree)

(My solution is just for 32bit systems, I’ve tried it on 4 systems both upgraded from 7.10 and fresh installs. Resulted same. Be aware! This is not the official solution!)
Adobe’s Flash Player problematic is a little bit complicated in Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Ubuntu uses pulseaudio as soundserver and default flashplugin-nonfree package is having non-quality interaction with pulseaudio. Most of the Firefox crashes are because of this. There is a partial solution with this: nspluginwrapper package. It’s a mediator between pulseaudio & flashplugin-nonfree. Acts like a lubricant 
But after opening some flash object containing web sites, flash objects occur as greyish blank region(s)… No luck!
I get pissed off during this struggle. I was trying to convince myself as “Hey dear me! No way or another there should be a solution for that!”. I’ve searched all the bug reports, several forums, blah blah and I came to an end. Here is the solution.
Open a terminal then;
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get remove -y –purge flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get remove -y –purge nspluginwrapper
sudo apt-get remove -y –purge libflashsupport
(Note: purge’s prefix is double dash.) then go to the Adobe website, (I’ve used Flash Player 10 Beta, you may choose ver. 9) download the .tar.gz package;
For ver. 9.0.124: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP
or
For ver 10 Beta: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
After that open the archive to any folder and close your browser… Run the installer (follow the instructions):
./flashplayer-installer
If it’s ok, then go to the directory
/home/YOURUSERNAME/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxx.default/
(ps.:xxxxxx is variable) and delete the xpti.dat file. That’s all, restart your browser and voila! Everything works as intended!

- Ubuntu 8.04, yani Hardy Heron’un öntanımlı Torrent istemcisi artık Transmission (Vites olur kendileri)olmuş. (Ubuntu Wiki’deki haberi burada). Şahsen ben de Torrent istemcisi olarak Transmission’u kullanıyordum fakat bu haberi duymak güzel oldu. Son derece kullanışlı ve çok az sistem kaynağı tüketiyor. Ayrıca Clutch (Debriyaj olur kendileri) [1][2]vasıtası ile de Web arayüzünü kullanabiliyor. -> Daha önce de bahsettiğim gibi [3][4] BitTorrent’in Bram Cohen’i artık işi tamamen ticarete vurduğundan, çoğu Torrent istemcisini kullanmak tehlikeli hale geldi. Hele hele Windows ortamında PeerGuardian gibi bir önleyici kullanmıyorsanız ve çok tutulan uTorrent gibi ( artık BitTorrent Inc. tarafından geliştirilen istemci) istemciniz ile yaptığınız veri trafiğinin bir takım kuruluşlar tarafından çarşaf çarşaf belgelendiğini unutmayın.
- Fransız polis teşkilatının kullanmağa başlayacağı 70000 adet Ubuntu yüklü bilgisayarın haberi yeni gelmiş pek sevinmiştik. Fransızlar Linux’u pek sevmiş olacaklar ki şimdi de Renault’dan haber geldi. Güzel bir haber değil bence çünkü; Renault, Microsoft ile işbirliği içinde Novell vasıtasıyla SUSE Enterprise Server için 1000 adet lisans almış… Renault “karanlık tarafla” iş yapıyor….
- Linus Torvalds, Avustralya Melbourne’de gerçekleştirilen Linux toplantısında güzel bir konuşma yapmış. Ayrıntıları burada.
- Wikipedia‘nın Türkçe içerikli hali olan Vikipedi 100000 (yüz bin) başlık sınırına varmak üzere. Artık Türkçe de Wikipedia’nın birinci ligine girmek üzere… En son kontrol ettiğimde 99700 küsür başlık vardı. Türkçe Wikipedia’nın gelişmesinde çaba gösteren tek tek herkese çok teşekkür ederim.!
