Holiday and Tralleis Excavations
My holiday trip has ended… I want to be there for whole excavation period, sadly it’s not possible. Many of you can think about that “what kind of a holiday attending to an archaeological excavation???”. The answer isn’t simple, it’s all about being me. “Being someone” is the fundemental question…
So here it is: Aydın was very very hot! Even it reached to 52 degrees. After a long droughty winter there were some water outages, this was the biggest problem… If you don’t hesitate to put your head in a pan full of boiling water the remaining part is very funny. Than you can freely go to Turkey, Aydın, Tralleis to visit the ongoing archaeological studies 
Biggest portion of the excavations are still continuing in the “gymnasion” building. After the revealing of “latrina” last year (means public toilet, which is the biggest one alongside the other known latrinas in Anotilia) they started to dig workshops & shops around the latrina.
Another group was working on a uncertain place. The place is probably a pool or a church. And the funniest labourers are working there. You can laugh day long there!The last group is working on the “necropolis” region of Tralleis (They decided lately to call there a necropolis after revealing a monumental tomb and many many simple tombs). We have had very very funny revealing moment. After the 4pm dinner we went to the necropolis area to fully reveal the tomb. This was the easiest part of the work: “We’ve just opened the tomb”. After the opening of the protective big stone gate… Are you curious about it? I think in a years time artefacts in the tomb will be represented in the Aydın Museum…
To visit there, to work there, to live there is like watching a thriller movie. I couldn’t understand that how a month passed with blink of an eye… I love archaeology even if I’m an engineer!!I’ll write again as soon as possible! Cheers!
