Books #6: New Directions in Bioprocess Modeling and Control

ndbmac

Process modeling & control is the most tricky area of Bioprocess Engineering. A new book from McMillian & Boudreau arrived.

If you are a process design, quality control, information systems, or automation engineer in the biopharmaceutical, brewing, or bio-fuel industry, this handy resource will help you define, develop, and apply a virtual plant, model predictive control, first-principle models, neural networks, and multivariate statistical process control. The synergistic knowledge discovery on bench top or pilot plant scale can be ported to industrial scale processes. This learning process is consistent with the intent in the Process Analyzer and Process Control Tools sections of the FDA s Guidance for Industry PAT A Framework for Innovative Pharmaceutical Development, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance. Articles #1: Development of a MATLAB based bioprocess simulation tool

People who started to develop a mathematical model for bioprocesses should probably faced with MATLAB for simulation. Here is nice example to help your effort to develop your simulation tool.

B. Sevella, G. Bertalan. Development of a MATLAB Based Bioprocess Simulation Tool, Bioprocess Engineering 23 (2000) 621-626 [Springer Link]

About Authors: Department of Agricultural Chemical Technology, TU Budapest H-1521 Szt. Gellért tér 4. Budapest Hungary

Abstract:
A simple user friendly mathematical modelling tool was developed on the basis of MATLAB software. The program system provides the possibility of solving differential equation system with the aid of an easy-to-use graphical surface. It is suitable for bioprocess engineering simulations to describe the dynamic behaviour of a great series of various enzyme, fermentation and environmental bioreaction systems. It is especially beneficial that nontime interventions can also be modelled and graphical representations can be realized on a wide palette.
