Gmail & My Ecosystem…
It was March 2005, when I first got my Gmail invite from my dearest friend. Within the first glance, it seemed to me a little bit weird. Unfamiliar mail grouping system, stars, where is my delete button, all mail, more actions etc…
At that times I was just using the Google Search Engine as a Google product in my life. Suddenly I quit all of my other email providers for the primary usage (in fact I’m keeping them for just a few other services.). Weirdness became functionality and addiction. There were no Google Documents, no Picasa, no Google Calendar, no Google Books, no Orkut, no Google Scholar, no Google Reader. After these aforementioned services came up, my whole internet usage changed. Especially after the Google Docs, collaboration possibilities with my colleagues changed my professional life dramatically. Day by day my computer usage became Google centric except my production suites, special software etc… Yeah all of the time I’m thinking of Oh Myyyy! Google is seizing me… Yeah the answer is true, Google is seizing people as other companies do. Without a doubt…
I’m thinking of myself; my freedom, my independency, my thoughts, my praxis, my way of life… I’m trying to inquire myself all over time in this capitalist era. In this capitalist web of life… Seeing that I’m just a tiny point of Google’s business plans, which is heavily embedded to the highly organized network… With the existence of internet I had chance to establish connections with comrades whom I’ve never seen, to make friends all over the world, to organize my information, to publish ideas… If I caved in myself to a another company who wants more than my state of being a customer, my blood, probably I would never get burst from them …
But when I consider Google’s products from the views of just the functionality, accessibility and networking, let me say: “They’re nearly perfect in technical means and getting better day by day…”. So here is the verdict: Thank you Google to helping me organizing my information and damn the “system” which is trying to convert us consumer cows…
It all started with Gmail…
